Lyn sat at the corner table at the tavern in Windhaven, the one closest to the window. From here, she could clearly see what was happening outside. The locals of this small village were engaged in various activities. Some of the children were running around. One of them, a small boy had a wooden toy sword and chased the "monsters", his friends. They didn't seem too happy about this game though. An old lady struggling to push a wheelbarrow also walked by. The strange thing was the nearby men didn't even offer to help the poor destitute woman. They just stood at the side of the road talking amongst themselves most likely about indecent topics. Lyn could also see a small group of women. They stood close to each other and their eyes were wide with anticipation. Occasionally, they would laugh out loud and this would resonate into the walls of the tavern.

Tsk...People... Lyn thought.

The things going on inside the tavern weren't pretty either. On the bar, a merchant was drowning himself in alcohol, complaining about how horrible business was going for him lately. Across the room, a group of people were gambling, shouting like uncivilized savages every so often. Their hoarse voices filled the air and the rest of the patrons looked at them in disgust. Lyn would have done so as well but something was troubling her; she was too lost in thought to care about the little things.

She was knocked out of her trance-like state by a loud thud. She turned her head and saw that the waiter had plopped the drink she ordered on her table. Some of it had spilled to the side due to the man's incompetence but Lyn didn't feel like complaining right now. For all purposes, she felt dead inside. She was at a deadlock, unsure of where to go from here. She stared at the liquid in her glass for quite some time before picking it up and taking a few short sips of the milk the had ordered. It tasted sweet.
